Beta

Altffour for Android, in beta.

One app for Android phones and tablets, Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV. It isn't in an app store yet, so you install it from the file below. It's a beta: things may still change, and some screens are rougher than in the browser.

Updates

Later versions install over this one

Every Altffour release for Android, here or on Google Play when it gets there, is signed with the same certificate as this beta. So a newer version installs over the one you have and keeps you signed in, whichever place it comes from.

Check the file

Make sure it's the real one

The SHA-256 above should match the file you downloaded: sha256sum altffour-*-beta.apk on Linux, shasum -a 256 on a Mac, or Get-FileHash in Windows PowerShell. With the Android SDK, apksigner verify --print-certs on the file shows its signing certificate's SHA-256, which should be the one above.

Phones and tablets

Install it on a phone or tablet

  1. Open this page on the phone and tap Download the APK.
  2. Open the downloaded file. The first time, Android asks to allow installs from your browser: tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, and go back.
  3. Tap Install, then Open, and sign in with your Jellyfin server's address.

Android TV and Google TV

Install it on an Android TV

TVs have no browser download, so the file comes from another device. Either way works.

  1. With a USB stick: copy the APK onto it, plug it into the TV, and open it with a file manager app from the TV's app store. The first time, the TV asks to allow installs from that app: allow it in Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources (the menu names differ a little between TVs).
  2. From a computer: on the TV, open Settings → System → About and select Android TV OS build seven times, then turn on USB debugging in Developer options. With the Android SDK's adb on a computer on the same network: adb connect <the TV's address> (accept the prompt on the TV), then adb install altffour-*-beta.apk. The TV's address is in its network settings.
  3. Altffour is in the TV's apps row. Open it and sign in with your Jellyfin server's address.

Fire TV

Install it on a Fire TV

  1. Open Settings → My Fire TV → About and select the device name seven times, until it says you're a developer. Then go back to My Fire TV → Developer options.
  2. With an app on the Fire TV: turn on Install unknown apps for a browser or file app from the Amazon Appstore, open this page or the APK with it, and install. From a computer: turn on ADB debugging, then adb connect <the Fire TV's address> and adb install altffour-*-beta.apk. The address is in My Fire TV → About → Network.
  3. Altffour is under Your apps. Open it and sign in with your Jellyfin server's address.
